After attending her first World Burn Congress in 2001 with her mother Sally, Julie Spiegel, a nationally certified therapeutic massage and bodyworker, volunteered to provide FREE Massages to burn victims attending World Burn Congress the following year. Needless to say, a 3 page waiting list was quickly generated, and an additional therapist was recruited to serve the requests. Thus the Wellness Program concept was born.
This program introduced the benefits of Massage Therapy and other Alternative Modalities available to assist burn survivors in their continual search for relief from emotional and physical discomfort. (You can download a pdf of an article on this that first appeared in the Journal of Massage Therapy.) The Wellness Program is supported by a growing list of certified massage therapists. This initiative also ensures continued research and investigation of additional complimentary health care methods of healing.

Continuing Education for Therapists
The Spiegel Burn Foundation is pleased to help support and promote Scar Management Workshops by Nancy Keeney Smith of N’Touchtherapy LLC.
Nancy has taught Working with Matured Scar Tissue to massage school students since 2004, as well as the eight hour CEU workshop for Licensed Massage Therapists at the renowned Florida School of Massage in Gainesville Florida.
You can download Nancy's recently published work in the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies* comprehensive study (click to download a pdf) on using massage to improve range of motion in burn survivors.
By joining forces and developing this workshop on a national basis, together we can help burn survivors in their never ending healing journey.
This workshop is NCBTMB accredited for Licensed Massage Therapists. This workshop is also an excellent informative opportunity for nurses, physical therapists, caregivers or family of burn survivors.
